Overview

Our gas condensate example is an upper Jurassic-age sandstone formation in the North Slope of Alaska. The well we have evaluated is in the Greater Moose’s Tooth Unit. The average porosity across the pay interval is 16% with an average permeability of 0.15 mD.an 

Description

The well-log plot across the sandstone reservoir is shown below. This is a relatively low contrast in resistivity conventional reservoir. Note also the lack of cross over in the density neutron track. The pay interval is between the two blue horizontal lines in the plot. The new acoustic log-based saturation model was applied to the measured compressional and shear sonic log data to estimate water saturation (Swt). Swt estimate from the new saturation model is shown in the water saturation track along with core Swt. Note how well the model prediction matches with core data.

Case Study Highlights:

The average Swt over the pay interval from the new model is 40%, compared to 43% from core Swt.

After stimulation, the perforated interval between X10 and X30 ft in the log plot tested 440 bopd, 1.55 mmscfd, and 15 bwpd.

Conclusion

New Acoustic log based saturation model was successfully applied to a low contrast in resistivity reservoir in the North Slope of Alaska.
